Lavandula (Lavender) angustifolia ‘Munstead’

The spicy freshness of English Lavender has spellbound and entranced people for centuries. Who can resist the bright, clean fragrance of a spray of fresh Lavender? Our Heirloom strain grows easily and produces plants of silvery-gray foliage and dainty purple flowers. The strong, clear perfume is carried throughout the leaves. Dried bunches make welcome potpourris, sachet, for the bath, and indoor herbal flower arrangements or wreaths. A much-loved variety that is best grown where the scent can be appreciated. Attracts bees and butterflies to the garden. Prefers a dry, infertile soil and is heat resistant. The dried flowers retain their fragrance and color for months. Tolerates clipping and will form a handsome hedge.

Planting/Care Instructions +

Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly. Grow in average, dry to medium, well-drained, alkaline soils in full sun. Well-drained soils are required, particularly in winter. Root rot commonly attacks plants grown in poorly drained soils. Plants prefer a light, sandy soil with somewhat low fertility. Remove faded flowers to promote continued bloom. Prune to shape in spring after new leaves appear. Prune back to 8" in spring every 3 years to control plant size and to promote robust, new growth. To combat high humidity, consider using rock instead of organic mulch.

Pests or Diseases: Susceptible to leaf spot and root rot
