‘Rheinland’ is one of the most beautiful of Astilbes out there, but it requires plenty of water and mulch in hot, dry weather. It is just full of showy, clear rose-pink, feathery, plume flowers above elegant, finely cut foliage. ‘Rheinland’ typically forms a dark green foliage mound (to 9-12″ tall) with open panicles of flowers appearing on upright, reddish stems (to 18″ tall). It should be noted that ‘Rheinland’ is sometimes listed as an x japonica cultivar.
‘Rheinland’ is a wonderful and graceful plant for the moist border, woodland edges, or planted in mass for a colorful display. It’s good cut flower. ‘Rheinland’ is a showy perennial for beautiful summer color in shady areas. Tall, feathery blooms, valued for light, airy quality, rise above the foliage. It’s partial to full shade. Mass or group in shade gardens, woodland gardens and shaded areas of border fronts or cottage gardens. It would make an excellent ground cover or edging plant for shady areas. ‘Rheinland’ can be great on a pond or stream banks. May be planted in the sun if given plenty of moisture. Moderate, mounding grower to 2 feet tall. Division.
