The Trillium is a sure sign that spring has settled in, these demure treasures are at home in cool woodland settings. The Trillium is a simple, graceful perennial that is one of the most familiar and beloved of the spring woodland wildflowers. Leaves, petals, and sepals of all trilliums come in groups of three. Native to eastern North America. Snowy White Trillium is found growing in open woodlands and protected hillsides. Long-lived and trouble-free with unusual three-petaled flowers.
After pollination, the flowers begin to change color from white to shades of pink. Over time it will become a naturalized groundcover. Don’t cut leaves back while they are green as they are needed for root establishment. Soon after their enchanting flowers fade, the handsome foliage disappears as well. Trilliums are long-lived, prefer humus-rich soil with ample moisture, and make admirable companions for Toad Lilies, and ferns.
