The ‘Red Trillium’ is a sure sign that spring has settled in, these demure treasures are at home in cool woodland settings. Trilliums are beloved spring wildflowers that grow from thick rhizomes with fleshy roots. The broad oval leaves join together at the top of the stem beneath a single flower with 3 broad petals and 3 sepals. Plant trilliums in shade gardens with wildflowers, shade perennials, and ferns. Native to North America. Spreads slowly as a clump.

Trillium is found growing in open woodlands and protected hillsides. Long-lived and trouble-free with unusual red three-petaled flowers. Over time it will become a naturalized groundcover. Don’t cut leaves back while they are green as they are needed for root establishment. Soon after their enchanting flowers fade, the handsome foliage disappears as well. Trilliums are long-lived, prefer humus-rich soil with ample moisture, and make admirable companions for Toad Lilies, and ferns.
